Earthbound Invading Nintendo Wii VC? News
Although the Wii Virtual Console has seen the occasional RPG here and there, in general the genre has been pretty under-represented on the service. A lot of that can be attributed to Square Enix's lack of support for the VC (only two games, none true RPGs).
Fortunately, if a new ESRB rating is accurate, Nintendo may soon be stepping in to help the cause by releasing Earthbound for the VC. Earthbound is easily one of the best RPGs for the Super Nintendo, with a zany storyline, wacky characters, and unique personality that makes it a vastly different experience from any other RPG before or since. Younger gamers may not realize that it's also the origin of the Smash Bros. series' Ness, who plays the leading role. Finally, it's one of the most expensive SNES carts on the used market, with the cartridge alone occasionally fetching $70+. So it should be one of the rare times where the VC is actually the cheapest place to legally obtain a game.
